When you come to Newfoundland, you feel like you are home ... when I moved here I couldn't believe the friendliness of everyone here. All they want to do is hug and feed you!!! I have always said that Newfoundlanders are famous for 3 things: Offer you a mug of tea Offer you a piece of dessert to go with the tea And leave their door unlocked in case you need anything else. I love it here, I will never move back to Alberta!!! Entered by melodie from 77.118.255.206 |

NFLD to me is such a special place especially Coxs Cove where I love bringing clients who visit. We have such a unique culture with so many friendly people,it is such a safe place for you and your family. Bringing my clients who are from all over the world to my little cabin along the shore line or in the backcountry for a tour and showing them my special places and have these clients come back again and again and telling their friends about NFLD and especially Coxs Cove means so much to me. NFLD is a special place and a place in my heart that I will always love and love to share with others. Entered by Darren from 24.224.160.132 |

We visited Humber Valley, Newfoundland for New Year 08-09 and had a fantastic time but the highlight of the trip was definitely the snowshoe trek into the forest, there was a real wilderness feel as we walked through the snow and came across the sinkhole, a small, collapsed part of a cave the rest of which remains still unexplored, abseiling down into the sinkhole we were taken aback by the breathtaking roaring frozen waterfall, a beautiful structure of ice with water falling down through the middle, search snowshoe to the sinkhole on youtube. Absolutely amazing. Open our web link for this trip Entered by dylan from 86.157.33.80 |

I have not been "Home" to Little Rapids, NL for over a year and I am a little homesick. After watching your videos, I feel much better! My parents still reside in Little Rapids. I remember when I was growing up, when they used to have logs at Boom Siding waiting to be released to float down to the mill, we used to try to jump from log to log... Not entirely a smart idea, but we were young, and very foolhardy. It was a wonderful place to grow up! Great place to spend time and enjoy the scenery, it is beautiful in such a special way. Cheers! Early last Friday morning we returned from a 14 day break over Christmas (2006) and New Year at the Humber Valley Resort. This was our first ever holiday in the snow and, in my early seventies, it was many years too late, as everything was a first! We took a four hour trip on the paths and logging roads around Old Man's Pond by skidoo. I had looked forward to a skidoo trip for quite a number of years and I wasn't disappointed. We were in a group of 8 and it was best to be at the back. By being in this position, you could drop back, then whack open the throttle and 'wheely' back up to the one in front, Another first was an attempt at cross-country skiing. When you see the experts doing it, it looks easy. But doing it is something different. But still great fun. My wife and I love to walk, so adding a couple of snow shoes to your feet made walking in the snow a wonderful experience. The sky on new years day was clear blue, so, around mid-day, we stuck on the snow shoes and went for a long walk. It had snowed quite a bit on New Years Eve and we were walking through virgin snow for much of the time. As the afternoon wore on and the sun dropped lower, the shadows became really long and the myriad diamond crystals on the snow turned to a soft golden. A truly beautiful light. We borrowed snowshoes on at least six occasions from the activities centre and used them either on the resort or elsewhere. It's a great way of moving about. On Christmas morning, the family (all 8 of us) went tobogganing. Really enjoyable and a means of working up an appetite for Christmas dinner. Everyone at Humber Valley Resort were so helpful and friendly to us, making our stay so memorable. The people of Newfoundland (Newfies)are the most welcoming, friendly, hospitable people I have had the pleasure to be amongst. We didn't feel like tourists or outsiders--we were one of them. If anyone is interested in maps, just open up a map of Newfoundland and scan it for a while. All the rivers, lakes, fjords, coves and small communities. Makes you want to see much more of it. And consider--Newfoundland has an area roughly that of Wales with a population equivalent to that of Milton Keynes. Plenty of space! If all the above asks the question, am I Crazy about Newfoundland, the answer is a resounding YES I AM. Malcolm Hardy Open our web link for this trip Entered by Daniel from 90.213.255.206 |
